Artist Statement
Through plants, I explore the passage of life returning to earth. My work begins with plants found in the natural environment of Okinawa, Japan.Leaves and flowers are shaped by intense sunlight, typhoons, sea breeze, insects, and time itself.Their traces reveal a quiet process of transformation. What appears fragile or damaged is often part of a larger cycle in which life continues beyond its visible form.Through a patented firing process developed over more than twenty years, real plant material is permanently fused into glass. The work is not intended to preserve plants as specimens.Instead, it preserves a moment within the continuous cycle of life.A moment between growth and disappearance.A moment between memory and renewal.I am drawn to plants that have completed their role and are returning to the earth.Within them, I see the passage of time that connects one life to another. In this space, the plant, the viewer, and I share the same present moment.Process Video
