Artist Statement

I work with observable facts found in nature.Plants are not symbols in my work.They are living records of time.For more than twenty years, I have developed a patented technique that permanently fuses botanical materials into glass without reducing them to ash.I collect fallen leaves during the process of decomposition and preserve this transitional state within glass.Glass is not used to preserve the leaves themselves.It allows light to pass through, casting their shadows into the surrounding space.The leaves record the time they have lived.The changing light reveals another passage of time.Within the same space, suspended time and flowing time quietly coexist.By observing the life of plants, I explore how human time might also be understood.My works do not illustrate a single message.They present observable realities, allowing each viewer to form their own interpretation.Process Video
